What is remote online notarization?
The same legal notarization — over secure video
Remote online notarization, usually shortened to RON, lets a Florida notary notarize your documents during a recorded audio-video session instead of in person. Florida has authorized it since January 1, 2020, under Chapter 117, Part II of the Florida Statutes.
A document notarized this way carries exactly the same legal weight as one notarized across a desk. The difference is only how we meet.
Online notarization is not the same as emailing a scan
A true RON session includes live video, identity verification, a tamper-evident electronic seal, and a recording retained for ten years. Anyone offering to notarize a document you simply email over is not performing a lawful notarization.

Remote notarization is tightly regulated in Florida, and that is a good thing — the rules exist to make your document harder to challenge later, not easier.
- Two-factor identity verification. Your ID is checked for authenticity and you answer knowledge-based questions drawn from public record.
- The full session is recorded and retained for ten years, as Florida requires.
- Tamper-evident sealing. Any alteration after notarization is detectable.

Before you book
Is an online notarization legally valid?
Yes. Florida authorized remote online notarization effective January 1, 2020 under Chapter 117, Part II of the Florida Statutes. A properly performed online notarization has the same legal effect as one performed in person.
Do I have to be in Florida?
No. You can be anywhere in the world. Florida law requires that the notary be physically located in Florida during the session — there is no residency or location requirement for you.
What does it cost?
Florida sets a statutory maximum of $25 per online notarial act. Platform and technology fees may apply separately. Call and describe what you need and you will get the full figure before you book — no surprises at the end of the session.
What ID do I need?
An unexpired, government-issued photo ID — a driver’s licence, state ID card or passport. It must be the original, not a photocopy or a picture on your phone, because the platform analyses the physical security features on camera.
What if I fail the identity questions?
It happens, particularly if you have moved recently or have a thin credit file. Florida allows a limited number of attempts. If it does not work, we will arrange a mobile appointment instead and get the document signed that way.
Do I need to print anything?
No. Send the unsigned document as a PDF, sign it electronically during the session, and receive the sealed copy by email. Nothing needs to be printed at any stage unless you want a paper copy for your own records.
Can the session be in Spanish?
Yes. Alcides is a native Spanish speaker and the entire appointment — explanation, identity verification and signing — can be conducted in Spanish.
How long does it take?
Most sessions run 10 to 15 minutes once we start. Same-day appointments are often available, and evenings and weekends can be arranged.
Will the receiving party accept it?
Almost always, yes. Occasionally a specific lender, consulate or court insists on a wet-ink original. If you have any doubt, ask them before booking — and if they say no, we will simply come to you instead.
